memorial day weekend camping trip
May. 27th, 2008 | 11:00 pm
dinners were potluck style where the whole clan congregated to one campsite to feast on rice, an array of different meats and side dishes, and freshly caught fried fish.
i only hope to go later this summer.

the joy of cooking

next time i'll put fresh raspberries inside with the filling along with raspberries bordering the top of the cake. i might also split all three layers for a total of 6 layers for more raspberry flavor to counteract the richness of the brown butter frosting.

new projects
May. 14th, 2008 | 03:07 pm
"ugly bunny" was a terrible first try. the baby bunnies were much easier and quicker to finish, which i enjoyed to give away for easter. when i came back from the philippines (a month after easter) pink and purple baby bunnies had disappeared completely. weird?
now i made mr. purple bear-bear, which was being made for someone else, but when i finished him i couldn't give him up. he's mine forever. i'm making a twin in pink for newest-member-of-the-extended-family baby kheelyn.

hello Atee and Junior
Apr. 29th, 2008 | 10:54 am
mood:
aggravated
to the two people i know who will actually read this, but in time...
i got into grad school at UW. so what to do now? quit my retail job. right start is going downhill. i've been told by my manager that it's not bankrupt downhill, but economy downhill. right start acquisition co has forced all their full-time employees to become part-time employees. meaning they aren't required to provide benefits therefore they don't have to pay for benefits for their employees. that company i've been working for for 2 years has gone to shits. to force all your employees to go part-time is ridiculous. maybe they should have realized earlier that opening two new stores isn't going to belittle the effect of the economy and rack in more money for the CEO. so i'm getting out and put my 2 weeks notice in. but with my last two weeks they still refuse to provide me with reasonable hours. so far i've worked and 8 hour week while the "new" girl still works at least 16 and i have 18 months on her. don't tell me you can't afford me now because even though i only have 2 weeks left doesn't mean i can be pushed over and paid less. right start and CEO of right start, you suck.

i am busy
Oct. 17th, 2007 | 04:03 pm
the next seven days will be hard. i'm taking the GRE on wednesday. with an exam in my one last class on tuesday and a group project presentation and report due the tuesday after that.
it's hard to fit everything into my schedule lately. i have the same job + a nice raise 3 days a week and i tutor at a school off of Yesler 2 days a week.
i've finally picked which schools i'm applying to: UW, SDSU/USD, U of Arizona, and AT
i've decided on 2 people i want to ask to write my letters of recommendation. and i should stop telling other people in my department who i picked because i'm afraid they're going to ask the same profs...and they probably will.

i did the Puyallup
Sep. 10th, 2007 | 07:43 pm
i don't know what took us 8 hours to do....eating probably. try the turkey legs. they're good.
i rode the sling shot with kuya philp twice. first time was deathly scary. i was screaming on the way down, cried some, and told kuya philip i hated him while trying to hit him. right when we got down to the ground the operator guy told us the deal, we can go again for only $10 per person but it had to be right now. so we did it again and i enjoyed it. i think it was better that kuya philip made us wait till night to do it, so we don't see the ground that we're plunging towards.
i'm going again on thursday for a double date. i hope junior will forgive me for going on the sling shot without him and go with me for my third run. need more scones for my mom.
i'm screening kids' hearing at the edmonds/lynnwood public school districts for two weeks. fun!

jury duty
Aug. 20th, 2007 | 10:55 pm
since junior is the only one who reads my blog and he complained about no updates...
i have something other school to talk about
i've been summoned to jury duty.
after waking up at 5:45am to catch the bus at 7, i got lost trying to find the court. it was raining and i had tons of time to kill because the #316 bus gets you downtown in ~10 minutes (ride this morning was 15 due to an accident), so i called home to wake my parents up and tell me where to go. unknowingly, while i was calling my parents i was exactly in front of the court house. i'm dumb, but it was early.
check in took about an hour. then we waited. someone started to talk to us about our duty to serve. then we watched an informational video, more like tutorial on how to behave during and after jury duty if you're picked as a jurist in a trial. then more waiting. studied for the gre. got a break, but didn't go outside because of the rain. then attempted to study, but fell asleep for an hour in my chair only to wake up every 15 minutes just in case i was drooling or talking in my sleep (and everyone around me was sleeping).
after lunch ( i tried that pike place chowder place in pacific place. good! i had a long lunch hour because we got dismissed early so i was able to walk that far) we waited more and my name got called.
hopefully i won't get picked and won't have to stay the rest of the week. i'm kinda actually excited to do it though. it would be an interesting experience.
don't ever take the #16 bus from downtown. it took me almost 50 minutes to get home. when if i only stayed to wait for the #316 it would have only taken 15.

reading material
Apr. 23rd, 2007 | 09:13 pm
but, i do have a bunch of books laying around that i've been meaning to start on.
Papillon by Henri Charriere which I started in the summer but got grossed out by the part where he hides money in a tiny canister and up his butt. My dad said it was a good read though.
...borrowed from my brother and so typical of him: The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka and The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge by Carlos Castaneda.
books I want to buy and really should buy.
Behold a Pale Horse by William Cooper. Race Against Time by Stephen Lewis.
and of course Ender's Shadow by Orson Scott Card recommended by Junior

long-ness
Apr. 10th, 2007 | 07:27 pm
junior and i had a 1 year anniversary date last night. was fun.
we also celebrated our 1 year + 1 month first date anniversary with junior letting me watch him eat a chipotle steak burrito and i letting him watch me sip a triple latte.
i just filed my taxes. right after i was freaking out for a week that i couldn't find my w-2, which had me nearly calling financial tomorrow morning to have it rush mailed to me, then i found out my dad had it. really i was nearly crying.
i gave up shopping for things i don't need for lent. and candy just because junior gave it up and didn't want me eating any in front of him to tempt him. lent is over and i only broke my candy give up once, but it was a sunday so it doesn't really count.
now i'm dreaming up the shoes i want to buy and the red hoodie i should've had since last year.
candy has replaced breakfast and lunch for 3 days now.
i've narrowed my grad school picks to uw, ucsd, and ua. i think the AuD students like me. if only the profs would.
with talk of my sister going back to school to get her masters in _____. i am/was excited to have a gre prep study buddy.
i was unaware of a certain comment regarding my auntie-ness on myspace. i am a good auntie and no non-blood could ever be better than me.

updates
Mar. 11th, 2007 | 10:36 pm

2. it is finals week. which means studying everyday and trying not to fall asleep. and baking cookies for boys who pull all-nighters.
3. i should be thinking GRE
4. BUT i am looking at what grad schools i want to apply to or more so looking at the ones that are the closest to seattle and in a state and climate i could barely tolerate for 4 years. the next school with an AuD program is Idaho State University. i don't like idaho. nor oregon (portland is ok but they don't have audiology) or colorado because of snow. the only school in california with AuD is San Diego State. i could like that. next up Arizona State and University of Arizona. utah is closer. University of Utah? i like salt lake city....i guess. UW show me love. please.
5. jonny doesn't have a bowl cut anymore. his parents finally gave him a fade. so we won't have to worry about "my hair is weird?" coming out of his mouth again.
6. junior and i are attempting 12 easy shpeezy

celebrated the new year with fam minus parents and auntie mimi and also friend and boyfriend. we had a full bar and atEE got drunk?
jonny told me he is still my baby. jacob calls me arlette. wrong auntie, baby. jonny also named his teddy bear "Robot". and today was saying "Robot Teddy Bear. Outer Space" in robot talk.
i bought the dream boots i've been craving for since september. i'm in love with them. sorry junjur.
i love my boots and that my birthday is in one month. one month! although 21 was a real good year.
